2020 Ford Mustang GT500 Redesign – Ford engineers, designers and motor sports experts make aggressive and functional aerodynamic designs for the new 2020 Ford Mustang GT500, inspired by fighter jets. This tiring design not only improves performance and capability on the track, but also truly presents the appearance of a 700 horsepower supercar. The new front fascia, engine hood and fender accommodate a significant power increase from the supercharged 5.2 liter V8 engine.

Angle grille openings are twice as large as those at the Shelby GT350 and increase cooling package air flow by 50 percent. A muscular hood with a large 31×28 inch louvered vent with a total of 6.03 square feet quickly extracts air to reduce downforce front and thermal management that can track. At the front and bottom, new splitters, new stomach hulls and reverse wings with side splitters help channel air in and around the car for thermal management that can track and reduce lift at high speeds with minimal drag penalties.

Utilizing its aerodynamic design from the Le Mans Ford GT racing program and Mustang GT4, the adjustable carbon fiber track wings are the exclusive option for the 2020 Ford Mustang GT500. This wing produces significant rear downforce at high speeds.

In addition to improving the aerodynamics of the 2020 Ford Mustang GT500’s ready-to-run, the front wicker splitter provides greater air deflection which ultimately minimizes front end lift in high-speed track environments (included in the Carbon Fiber Track Package).

Ford’s performance enhances the Ford Le Mans GT aerodynamic design to make the patented wing track design also used in Mustang GT4 racing. This open-air carbon fiber lane is one of three rear aerodynamic designs available on the 2020 Shelby GT500. Standard performance decklid spoilers, while available swing spoilers are equipped with Handling Packages and carbon fiber track wings are part of the Carbon Fiber Track Package. New rear diffuser with updated composite material provides additional aerodynamic strength.

First introduced with the 2019 Shelby GT350 Track Package, a high-performance swing spoiler combines the benefits of a wing track with airfoil-shaped tunnels between the trunk lid and spoiler to improve aerodynamic efficiency. The available Gurney flaps can be quickly installed to increase rear downforce.

2020 Ford Mustang GT500 Thermal track-ready management

Behind the front fascia, six heat exchangers are neatly packed with integrated ducting and 16 speeds for more even airflow, and there is a 600 watt brushless fan and pulse-width modulation electric pump for air-to-liquid charge intercoolers. The system includes two compact compact high-efficiency radiators designed for open wheel racing – additional engine cooling on the driver’s side and engine oil cooler on the passenger side. The center stack is equipped with the main high-temperature radiator, low-temperature intercooler radiator and AC condenser with transmission coolers mounted horizontally below.

The thin mesh metal grille helps protect the radiator from debris while increasing airflow. The dual heat side thermostat increases coolant flow and increases cooling capacity under extreme operating conditions. The removable rain tray made of aluminum protects the engine from moisture and debris, further helping cooling air flow and reducing lifting of the front end when released. Combined with large hood vents, this new design for 2020 Ford Mustang GT500 increases cooling package air flow by 50 percent compared to Shelby GT350.
